Zurich University of Applied Sciences delegates visit ISiM for International Collaboration

August 24, 2012

A Delegation headed by Dr. Armin Züger, Head International Relations, School of Engineering, Zurich University of Applied Sciences (ZHAW) visited International School of Information Management, University of Mysore on August 24, 2012 between 10:00am to 1:00pm. Dr. Alexander Bosshard, Program Director, School of Engineering and Dr. Hanfried Hesselbarth Professor, School of Engineering accompanied him.

This is the preliminary meeting to explore the possibilities of student and faculty exchange programmes and ISiM and ZHAW signed a MoU to operationalize the Summer School and Student and Faculty Exchange Programmes between the two institutions.

They undertook a tour of the ISiM campus and had a discussion with Prof. Shalini R. Urs, Executive Director and Professor, ISiM. The discussion was about collaboration with the Zurich University (ZHAW) for student and faculty exchange programme. They gave a brief introduction about the ZHAW and the different courses it offers.

The ZHAW increasingly moves in international arenas, working across borders and intensifying cooperation with foreign partners in all disciplines, for staff and students. They use the synergies that develop from collaboration with training and research institutions on all continents. The ZHAW values its regional anchorage in the greater Zurich area, a hub in the global networked world. They are convinced that our society needs more actors who are competent and responsible, who work in networks to generate knowledge, and who recognize cultural diversity as value-added. By promoting international competence, the ZHAW contributes to lasting social, economic, technological and ecological development. In this, the goal is always to cross borders and further the skills and personal development of the individuals who participate. The department therefore supports the members of the international ZHAW community and their foreign partners.

Prof. Shalini R. Urs addressed the group and informed them about ISiM’s journey from conception to execution and how ISiM has evolved since the beginning. She explained the ideas of people behind the evolution of ISiM. The Delegates while being appreciative of the culture edge were interested in knowing the syllabus of ISiM that includes courses on Knowledge Management, Human Computer Interactions, Taxonomies, Ontologies, Bio Informatics and Information Systems Design.

Under this agreement, students of ISiM will be able to go and spend a semester/Summer at the ZHAW and similarly students from ZHAW would be spending a semester/summer term at ISiM.
