Brainstorming Workshop on OCR for Indian Languages

Preamble
OCR technology and tools are critical for effective management of content in Indian languages. This Workshop is proposed as a kickoff meeting to understand the feasibility of and develop a plan of action for carrying out a R & D Project in OCR for Indian languages
 

Workshop Goals

  • Bring together experts and provide a framework for presentations and deliberations on the topic of OCR and Indian Languages
  • Discuss the feasibility and challenges of developing OCR system for Indian languages
  • Draw up a check list of R & D Challenges for OCR in Indian languages
  • Scoping and identifying the languages for the first phase of R & D

Workshop Outcomes

  • A status report on OCR for Indian languages
  • A feasible framework for developing OCR for two of the Indian Languages
  • A roadmap for a Research Project on OCR for Indian Languages
  • A Network of experts committed to contribute to the Project on OCR in Indian Languages
